IQ-170 Intelligent Lighting Controller

The IQ-170 Intelligent Lighting Controller from Skene Design allows you to instantly control the brightness of two driving or fog lights.

This controller is a perfect complement to high intensity LED driving and fog lights that are now available. Often these lights are too bright to operate at full power during the day. With the IQ-170, the rider can pre-program several precise lamp brightness settings that he wants available and with the flick of a switch immediately select the desired setting. There's no fumbling with a knob or a wireless remote button, trying to guess the best level.

Operation:

Whenever the motorcycle's high beam is switched on, the IQ-170 controller overrides the switch setting in effect and sends full power to the lamps. When the high beam is switched off, the lamps are set to a different power setting, which may easily be programmed to any of 11 different power levels, ranging from off to 100%, in 10% steps.

Additional brightness settings are supported with the use of a customer-provided toggle/rocker switch. If a two-position switch is added, two brightness settings are available in addition to the high beam override. If a customer-supplied three-position switch is used, three brightness settings are available. Each of these settings is adjustable, providing very flexible and convenient control over the lamps' brightness. See the wiring diagram below for details.

The IQ-170 has two channels, each of which can power a 60 watt (5 amp) lamp. They can be connected in parallel to power a combined load of 120 watts (10 amps). The lamps can be connected through a fuse directly to the vehicle's battery. No separate relay is required, as the controller performs this function. When you turn off the ignition, no current flows through the lights.

ALERT! feature (NEW)

A new and unique ALERT! feature is available on the IQ-170-A model. This allows you to rapidly modulate the brightness of the lamps attached to the controller when you really need to be noticed by traffic ahead.

When you need to maximize your visibility, just tap your high beam switch twice within one second, and the IQ-170-A instantly responds with a brief, but highly conspicuous flashing sequence. No matter what brightness you have the controller set to, it will immediately flash the attached lamps at maximum brightness in a very conspicuous sequence, like an over-caffeinated high-beam switch. The sequence takes less than two seconds, but you've just greatly improved your likelihood of being seen. Normal application of the high beam or a single tap will not trigger the ALERT! sequence, so it has no effect on your usual riding style.
